Geropsychology
“Geropsychology” is a specialty area of psychology that focuses on understanding, treating, and improving the mental health of older adults (65+).
I have significant experience and training in person-centered approaches to treatment for problems older adults may be facing including: neurocognitive/neurodegenerative disorders (Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s Disease, and other dementias), management of a chronic or acute medical illness, aging-related stressors including retirement, role transitions, caregiver stress, end-of-life concerns, and grief/loss.
Training
I have training and clinical experience in Veteran’s Affairs Medical Centers, in-patient trauma centers and hospitals, nursing homes, and hospice and palliative care settings. As such, I highly value consulting with medical providers, physicians, lawyers, nurses, and other members of your clinical team to provide comprehensive care to meet your goals and needs.
Consultation
I value meeting my clients where they are emotionally and physically and am happy to do in-person office visits, in-home visits, and phone call or telehealth visits as appropriate. I am also available for consultation to nursing homes, residential or in-patient units, or to provide family consultations about how to manage a specific behavior change you have noticed in your loved one. I can also provide professional recommendations and remain as a consultant as-needed.
Common Concerns and Treatment Approaches

Depression, Anxiety & Sleep
Mood symptoms and poor sleep can significantly impact quality of life. I provide a person-centered, evidence-based, compassionate approach to treatment tailored to your needs.
I have expertise in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy both of which are evidence-based treatments for common mental health concerns.

Role Transitions
Life transitions, including the loss of a close relationship, changes in your role at home or at work or the death of a loved one, can result in feelings of loss, sadness, and confusion. The development of a new chronic medical condition can also disrupt life and lead to feelings of depression and anxiety.
Therapy can help you clarify your values, improve your relationships, and build a sense of purpose.

Consultative Services
I also provide consultative services for older adults and their family members. This often includes psychoeducation, behavioral interventions, baseline cognitive testing, recommendations for wraparound services, and connecting with healthcare specialists, assisted living communities or nursing homes, physicians, and other multidisciplinary team members to help you and your loved ones effectively navigate the aging process.

Educational Seminars & Groups
I also provide psychoeducation on mental health, aging, and dementia to local communities, assisted living communities, and offer wellness seminars/groups. I have facilitated groups recently at Kendal at Hanover, Quail Hollow Senior Living Community, and the Dartmouth Aging Resource Center. Please reach out if you are interested in learning more about how I might be able to help you or your community.
